Rory Sheehan Turn On Your Brain For Learning

Rory Sheehan

Welcome

It always struck me as odd how we spend so much time in school, being told to learn so many different subjects, and no one ever taught us how to learn. No one that is until, Turn on Your Brain for Learning.

Turn on Your Brain for Learning comes from the perspective that the label "Learning Disabilities" is misleading. A more appropriate label would be “Learning Differences”. Turn on Your Brain for Learning will help the learner, regardless of age or background, to move beyond common misconceptions about learning and to achieve a stronger understanding of how to make learning more manageable, and more fun.

At Turn on Your Brain for Learning we offer programs to help learners of all ages. We also have a wide selection of products that may be the difference you are looking for.

Recently, my daughter, 10th grade, brought home her mid-term grade in math. To my surprise, it was a failing grade (48%). Instead of asking her "what the heck happened?", I remembered what you told me and tried to ask the right questions to obtain the information I needed to assess what the problem could be. After going through certain exercises with her, I came to the realization that she was a visual learner.

This made sense to me. During early school years and in grade 9, the teachers she had always explained math using the blackboard and handout materials. The teachers went through the problems "visually" which helped my daughter better understand. This year, my daughter told me (through asking those questions) that her grade 10 teacher talks all the time. He doesn't use the blackboard and assigns homework when the class is coming to an end.

During the parent-teacher interview, I explained this to the teacher. I advised him that my daughter is a visual/hands on learner and requires a teacher who shows her how to do it instead of telling her how it is done. I felt confident after the interview, the teacher who knows this now, will change his ways of teaching. I am really surprised that teachers do not know this. That there are many ways of learning and that each child is different and unique. I feel that they must incorporate all ways of teaching/learning into their classrooms.

My daughter feels better now. I was able to identify the problem using the correction question techniques taught by you Rory. I didn't put blame on her for not studying properly or listening in class as this was not the case.

Thank you Rory. I wish I had known this information a long time ago....but better late than never!!!
